Using Google CSE to create a custom search engine for your students

Google now has a tool called CSE that lets you create a custom search experience for your students. If you have a collection of websites you want your students to visit for a project, simply put them into your new CSE, give it a name, and you will receive an embed code to put the custom search bar into your blog, wiki or website.

I created one on careers in math and science below:

I am going to have to play with this a bit more. I think it would be great for the career research project we are doing in a week. Thanks for sharing this tool.

I'd like to see if this will work as well as simplybox. It would be nice to have something that will be easy to use and easy for kids to use.

WOW! This sounds like a great way to allow students to search the internet in a safe environment. I will have to play with this on my own and introduce to my students when we research during our animal unit and state unit!

I have not played with this tool yet, but I love the idea of it! I think students automatically think "Google = search," but I am hesitant to let them actually do it because of the garbage that can come up in a search. This could be a good solution to the junk problem...

I like the idea of getting rod of the junk like Mrs. Brucker alluded to! You never know what will pop-up. Safe surfing is great! I am looking forward to using this to give the students research possibilities for planets and explorers. They love being in charge of their learning and becoming experts and then sharing with the rest of the class. Great tool to help with that!
